1. I can’t the pilot lit/how do you light the pilot?

Solutions

Is the fuel valve supply to the appliance open?

Is the emergency shutoff valve turned to the "on" position?

§    No gas flow

Open valve on the appliance
LPG appliance: Is the LPG tank empty?

§         No gas available

Check tank, fill tank if needed. Make sure tank valve is turned on.

Is the setting on pilot?

§         Wrong valve setting

Set to pilot

Are you finding the right place to light the pilot and getting pilot flame?

§         Not lighting the right place

Check owners manual to find where the pilot burner is

Are you holding down the reset button while lighting the pilot? Are you holding it down long enough?

No: Not allowing pilot to heat thermocouple/pile long enough to activate electromagnet in safety shutoff system

Yes:Defective thermocouple/thermopile

 

Hold down button for 30-60 seconds or more after pilot burner ignites

Call professional to come diagnosethe problem

2. The pilot lights/is lit, but the main burner won’t come on. What is wrong?

Is the control on the ON setting?

 Is the thermostat set for heat?

§         Wrong setting prevents gas flow

§         Loose connection or defective thermocouple/pile

 

 

 

§         Blockage in orifice or burner

Turn valve and remote control to ON position

Make sure thermostat set to ON and temperature set above room temperature

Service call to diagnose problem

3. My glass soots up/I’m getting soot in the room. What’s wrong?

Vented style gas products DO produce soot, which is the reason that they must be vented!
Visible soot in the room indicates a venting problem.

Vent-free appliances should never cause soot, either inside or outside of the appliance.
Sooting caused by vent-free appliances indicate a problem with the appliance.
