Is ther any advantage to the different degrees of the flu being wide ope or slightly open my flu had different degrees of openness. Wide open works great but I feel like I should know what the various degrees of openness do.

TO: Donald Sultan- the degrees of openness to the damper is a temperature regulator. The wider it is open the faster the wood burns and escapes out the flue. Keeping it narrower will retain more heat inside and not out the top.
